Exception in Arabic

This category is used to convey meanings such as “except for”, “however”, “nevertheless”, “despite”, and “in spite of”.

The first particle is بَلْ – bal, which means “but” or “rather”.

It is normally used after a negative statement, followed by a contrasting affirmation.
